Gift Ideas for Little Ones

Hey luvs! Today on the blog I am sharing my top 5 gifts for kiddos! What I love about these gifts is that they are not only affordable, but they inspire creativity! Molly already has a couple of these gifts and I plan on getting her the other ones in the future (when age appropriate).

  1. ASHLEY’S PJ’S | 2. HAYDEN’S PJ’S | 3. MINE AND MOLL’Y PJ’S

Wonderbly Story Book (Gift Code Below!)

You might remember me posting to Instagram about Molly‘s personalized Lost My Name book a while back. I also often post Instagram stories of me reading her books and this is definitely a go-to book for her. Anyway, it was given to us as a gift a while ago and when we opened it we were just blown away! The fact that a friend took the time to do something personalized for us and Molly just meant so much to us!

So that’s why this year for Christmas we decided to give all the little ones in our lives personalized books from Wonderbly! The funny thing is, when you get something personalized like this it feels like the person who gave it to you spent all this time to get you something so special. But the truth is, it’s so quick and easy to do but it results in a one-of-a-kind, super special gift! And it only takes 7 to 10 days to get in the mail so it’s not like you have to order it way in advance (But FYI, December 12th is the last day to order to guarantee delivery by Christmas! Although there is an express shipping option which gives you until the 18th). That’s why I am posting this now. It’s December 1st, so it’s officially time to get going on buying all your gifts! Don’t be the person that waits to the last minute and goes into a random store and buys some random gift that doesn’t mean anything to the person you’re giving it to. Trust me, I’ve been that person before. It’s not fun to give those gifts and it’s not so fun to get those gifts either.

So this year, both my nieces will be getting their own personalized books from Wonderbly. The reason I love the Lost My Name series is because it’s not only personalized, but it also teaches little ones how to spell their name! Molly and my niece Blake are a little young to be spelling yet, but I’m convinced they will be the first ones in their classes spelling their names given that they’ll have these books from such a young age! Also, every book is different! So my niece Lennon’s book with spell out Lennon with mythical creatures whose names start with each letter in her name. So the first character might be a lion. And for Blake’s book the first character would start with a B. So if you have two kiddos in the same household to get the books for, their books will be completely different!

Wonderbly also has other books that can be personalized including a Christmas book that can be personalized with your entire family’s names! And there’s a ton of other ways to personalize with their books too! Check out their site and you’ll see what I mean.

Did you guys ever have a personalized book growing up? I did, and I remember feeling like it was the coolest thing in the whole world! My mom and dad gave me one when I was around 9 and I remember thinking I was famous because my name was in a book! Ha! I want Molly to feel just as special! And the cool thing is if you use the code GIFT15 you get 15% off the book. And they start at around 25 bucks so it’s such a great deal for such a personal gift that will make, not only the kiddos on your gift list happy, but their parents too! Gets yours HERE!

A Chalk Board Laptop

Screen time is a huge problem with kids these days. I’m already starting to notice it with Molly. She sees when Kevin and I are on our phones and she always wants to play with them. We started giving in a couple months ago and even downloaded some apps for her that she could play with when we were flying across the country. But little by little we started letting her use those apps at home and now she not only knows how to play all the games, but she will scroll through our phones and find the apps on her own to open them! It’s honestly pretty scary how much she’s into screen time already. And this was something we tried really hard to keep away from her for the first year of her life. In fact, we never had the TV on when she was in the room for the first year of her life. We were really strict about it. But, no parent is perfect and all I can say is that we did our best. Unfortunately, with baby number two I feel like the TVs going to be on all the time because Molly will be watching it. What can you do.

Anyway, I found this adorable chalkboard laptop from Land of Nod. I just thought it was such a great alternative to getting a child an iPad this year. When they open it up, they can use chalk to draw anything they like! And hopefully learn to write their name one day! Also, when Molly sees me working on my laptop, I hope that I can encourage her to get out her chalkboard laptop and work right alongside of me. And $25 is such a great price.

Children’s Binoculars

Kids spend way too much time indoors these days. And I believe any toy you can give that will encourage them to play outside is a great gift! So I found these binocular‘s online for under nine dollars and just thought it would be the perfect gift for any little boy or girl! You will not only encourage them to go outside to use them, but will also hopefully encourage them to explore the outside world and ask questions about things they see through the binoculars. These actually have night beam vision as well. I’m not sure exactly what that is. Ha! But I’m guessing it helps you see at night. Given that this is under nine dollars and a child’s toy, I’m sure the night vision isn’t all that spectacular. Ha! But it will excite any young explorer who uses it!

Art Set

I loved drawing as a kid. I remember being so proud of the artwork I would create and my grandmother would proudly display it throughout her house. In fact, after my grandma passed away I kept all of my artwork she had hanging at her house. Each time I look at one of those pieces of art it reminds me of her and reminds me of when I drew it for her. That’s why it’s super important for me that Molly is able to express herself through art as well. She’s a little too young to color right now. So she mostly just uses this water coloring book. But when she’s older I’m definitely going to get her a beautiful art set like this one. It comes with everything a kiddo could need to express themselves through drawing/painting. Colored pencils, markers, paint and more!

Plus, I’m sure you’ll get yourself a beautiful picture out of it for whatever little one you decide to gift this beautiful art set to.

THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS

If there’s one thing I am horrible at its geography. And I really hope that Molly will not follow in my foot steps when it comes to her knowledge of our continents and countries. That’s why when I saw this Smart Globe I thought it was such a great idea for a gift. It’s very affordable at only $35 and it’s a cool way to get kids excited about geography. In fact, if I get it for Molly when she’s older one day, I’ll probably use it myself to learn a thing or two! Ha! And based on the reviews people love it. I’ve been pretty blown away by Ebay recently, which is where I found this globe, and how great their prices are! I used to think they only sold used products but that’s just not the case anymore! Almost everything they sell is new now and at crazy good prices!

And I hope you guys like my gift suggestions because I plan to post a few more over the next couple weeks to give you more ideas for adults too! I know sometimes it’s hard to think of gift ideas, so a little help never hurts!

The memory you shared about your Grandmother was touching. ❤
Molly’s little friend is a cutie.
    Happy Dec. 1st!

  2. Thanks Ali! What wonderful ideas!! I remember being blown away the first time I saw one of the wonderbly books — I should definitely get one for my little girl (thanks for the discount code!!)! And I love the chalkboard laptop! I work from home half-time, so as much as I try to avoid it, my baby sees me on the laptop quite a bit. Maybe this way we can “work” side by side!

My gift this year for my nieces is Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls ( http://amzn.to/2zS4zHl ). It has 100 real-life stories of kick-ass women (I think “rebel” is the kid-friendly word, haha), but they are written in a fairy tale style that makes them so fun to read!

    1. Oh, and the other toy I have on my radar for when my baby is older is the Cubetto ( http://amzn.to/2jARrvy ). It is supposed to be simple enough for a toddler (3+) to use, has no screen, but actually teaches basic computer programming concepts while they play! Ali —
have you seen something like this before? If I remember, you used to work for a tech company, right? Would be cool to know what you think!

  3. Wonderful ideas!! I so want to get some of these things for my daughter! She’ll be 14months old this Christmas. This really is my favorite time of year, especially with having a daughter now.

Thank you for sharing! Praying for you and your family as you prepare to bring another bundle of joy into the world.

  5. We bought a Wonderbly book for our daughter and niece last year and they LOVE it! It is so cute! The chalkboard laptop is so cute and it looks like it’s actually on sale! (14.97 woo hoo!)

  6. These are great ideas! I love reading all your blog posts and following your adorable family!

I have a totally random question for you – I’ve noticed that you normally have hair/sideburns/not sure what to call it- around your face. Your ears are always covered with loose hair. Just wondering why? You’re beautiful!

  7. SOOO glad you posted the globe link! I’ve been keeping my eye on that particular toy waiting for a good deal! I snatched one up today 😁 My son is only 3 but he is really into globes and maps right now.

  8. Love the idea of giving my little gal a book with her name in it. She is just starting to really recognize and write her name so she would LOVE it! Thanks for all the great ideas 🙂

  11. What age do you think the “Boy Who Lost His Name” book is appropriate for? I’m not a parent yet myself but trying to determine whether this would be good for a friend’s child. Thanks!
