Family Photo!

We took the most adorable photos with Molly when she was only 6 days old! This photo and more can be seen HERE on Us Weekly’s site. If you wanna see more pics, pick up this weeks issue of Us Weekly. It’s Molly’s magazine debut! Ha! She’ll get a kick out of it when she’s older. I still think it’s weird when I see our pictures in a magazine, so I’m sure she’ll think it’s so crazy when she’s older.

And I know the article talks about how my epidural stopped working during my 20 hour labor, but that’s only the beginning of my story. I actually spent the night in the high risk unit of the maternity ward after my labor because I was hemorrhaging. My placenta didn’t detach from my uterus after my labor and Molly was born face up. Add in convulsing and vomiting and these are just a few of the details that made my labor – how do I say this nicely – not so fun 😉 I might write more about it later – we’ll see. And I’m not complaining by any means. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. Just sharing my story.

Anyway I wanted to share details on my dress since some of you have asked about it. It’s by Show Me Your Mumu (you guys know I love this brand) and you can get it HERE and HERE. It’s VERY flattering! I was able to wear at 6 day post pregnancy and not feel completely huge. Details on my comforter, pillow and headboard are below. The comforter is on sale!

  1. Hi, my second child, a daughter was also a "dramatic" labor and delivery! Quick labor and lots of bleeding (I had a similar thing with my placenta also). She is now 18 months and BEYOND adorable!! It’s all worth it in the end!!
You are an adorable, loving mother! Rest up and feel good!

  2. I love you blog Ali, I’ve been following you since you were in Jake’s season of The Bachelor. I think you might have used auto-correct or something but every time you tried to say "my" it spelled "gym", and "consulting" instead of "convulsing" (I assume). I’m not trying to be rude, I adore you, just looking out for ya! Congrats on the beautiful baby girl!

  3. Hi Ali! Adorable pics! My first born son was also face up and caused horrible back labor! They had to turn him over in the birth canal! That freaked me out a just a bit! Like you though, I would do it all over again for him! My second son came face down like he was supposed to and I had normal stomach labor and I much preferred that way! haha! The second one was a total of four hours of labor start to finish and this was something I also much preferred! LOL Thanks for sharing with us! Molly is beautiful!

  4. Ali, you are now superhero status! You’ve been through labor and delivery. No wonder mothers around the world remember the birth of their children for the rest of their lives. You are doing all the right things. And your little girl loves you. Xo

  5. I had the same problem with the epidural only working on one side (for both of my labors the same side) so I wonder if my spine is crooked or something. I had never heard of this problem until after my first delivery but apparently it is fairly common. Luckily for me, they gave me extra drugs and put me on my side so that I didn’t feel anything for the actual delivery. This made recovery take longer though. I will say I seem to have forgotten how bad both of my bad labors were and I’m hoping for a third so the babies are definitely worth it!

  6. Thank you so much for sharing! My epidural did not work at all either and I had two different doctors attempt to place it. I had some numbness but it was so tough! They thought it may be due to spine curvature. I also had a very big baby and ended up with a c section. I never knew anyone else that had this happen so thank you for making me feel like I’m not alone. 🙂 Molly is beautiful! Congrats!

  7. My placenta didn’t detach after I had my first child! Total nightmare. I didn’t have an epidural during labor/delivery, so because of that, after an hour of my baby being born, I had to be put under anesthesia. My husband had not gotten to hold my baby girl yet, because I made him promise to wait until I was able to see him hold her for the first time, and they wheeled me out so quickly to do surgery that he didn’t have a chance before hand. 4 hours later I woke up, and found that I lost a lot of blood and had to get 2 blood transfusions. My doctor says 99% of the time, her job is pure bliss, but that I was the 1%! Lol. Not because it wasn’t pure bliss to help me bring this baby into the world, but stressful placenta issue plus losing lots of blood. So scary.

    1. Also lots of vomitting during labor as well! It.was.awful. Made contractions that much more horrifying. BUT! The good news about the placenta issue, I was so scared it would happen again with my second, but thankfully it came out all together! Yay!!! So here’s to hoping your next time doing this will go more smoothly! My husband and i literally breathed a sigh of relief after the doctor told us the placenta came out. They joked we were more relieved about the placenta than the baby! Lol! Which wasn’t the case but after going through what we went through the first time, it was great to hear everything went smoothly the 2nd time around!

  8. Omg!! I think an "easy labor" sounds hard from all the different stories of my friends!! And u can complain away.. That sounds aweful? But all worth it for your little girl!? Cute photos too!!

  9. I had a similar experience with my daughter as well. I was induced two weeks early because I was showing signs of preeclampsia. My epidural actually went ok and I was in labor for about 15 hours. But my daughter was also face up and I pushed for two hours! I also hemorrhaged. I guess when my placenta detached, my blood vessels weren’t closing. I lost a liter of blood but luckily it was just under the amount necessary for a transfusion. Honestly, I didn’t even realize what was happening because my daughter was on my chest and I was in total awe! I only remember asking the nurse if I was ok, she was so amazing and rassured me that I’d be ok. It was scary for my husband and family members that were there though. I felt so weak and pretty light-headed for a couple days. The whole experience makes me feel even more blessed to have a beautiful, healthy 14 month old baby girl and that I’m still here to watch her grow! Enjoy every little moment it truly does fly by! Congratulations and may God bless your family and your journey!

  10. I had a very similar birth experience. I would have paid someone big money for an epidural. It just would not work. I thought working there, I would be completely prepared. Oh how it’s different when it’s yourself in the drivers seat. I would love to hear more of your birth story. I absolutely love them. I hope you are recovering well. Thanks for sharing your new addition with us! Xo

  11. I’m sorry you had to go through that, BUT also very happy to hear that I am not the only one who’s placenta did not detach! When I tell other mom’s about the delivery of my first born – they look at me like I’m crazy and that couldn’t have happened, because they’ve never heard of such a thing! It took me MONTHS to recover from that and I had an extremely fussy baby, that never slept – it was awful. But rest assure that each delivery (and baby) will be a new experience, hopefully I more pleasant one. My 2nd labor (just 6 months ago) was fast thank goodness (BACK LABOR IS A %&!@#) No epidural and my recovery was immediate. He is the happiest baby – so grateful for that! No body said "momming" is easy, just worth it!

  12. Wow, I had NO idea what you went thru!!! So happy it’s over now and you can move forward – with all the OTHER challenges ahead! hahaha! Best wishes!

  13. Wow, sounds very full on! my labour was 2.5 days but no complications like you experienced. SO glad you are both healthy and well and that you enjoying life as a mother! Thanks for your honesty and just all over happy vibes! You rock Ali!! I love following you from Australia! xo

  14. Hi Ali! Thanks for sharing your photos and the article and more about your experience, I love following your story. Random question–How did you get your headboard so low profile?? We have a window right above our bed too and are looking for a lower headboard that doesn’t completely cover it up ha. In the pottery barn link it looks much taller than in your picture but I could be wrong?

  15. Beautiful family photo’s they capture the look of "awe" in both of your eyes. Such beautiful memories that will forever be cherished
